Jacksonville University, often referred to as simply JU, is a private university located in Jacksonville, as its name suggest, which is the largest city in the US state of Florida, as well as the county seat of Duval County, including the principal city in the Greater Jacksonville Metropolitan Area, which has a population estimated at a number of more than 1 300 000 inhabitants.
JU traces its roots back in 1934, when it first started as William J. Porter University, which was actually a 2-year college that became Jacksonville Junior College, in 1935, and finally, Jacksonville University, in 1956, 6 years after moving to its current location.
More than 3500 students are attending classes today, at JU, representing 50 states and 27 different countries, and according to U.S. News and World Report’s list of "America’s Best Colleges", in 2006, JU has became one of the top universities among over 150 master’s universities in the South, since it first opened its doors.
